Building Travel Articles Around Images

Usually travel books are repeated by magazine articles, which have writers who have traveled to shape the articles first and then look for photographs from stock to match the articles. Only a few travel articles actually have a photographer assigned to the story from its conceptualization to its first draft. Perhaps, editors of magazines and newspapers would be smart to start with the best images a traveling photographer could come up with over a period of time so the articles could be written around the best images. After all, doesn't the typical tourist want to experience a visual delight first and foremost as well as see the famous landmarks and museums.

Here the photography exists for writing in great detail about the regions and towns of the images. Do you think it would be difficult for someone at home to research the travel books and write the copy to accompany the images. The captions here tell enough of the story to suggest a longer article and its contents. The images here give food for thought on what travel photograhy might be concerned with as travelers get more sophisticated as they travel back to places and explore the less touristic places of their first visits. The establishing shot of Notre Dame is so common the detail shot from it probably is more interesting now. The ecperienced tourist does not just want to see landmarks now but wants to see landscapes of the region and the countryside of less known destinations. The experienced traveler would also like to know what interesting ways can be used like a canoe trip to see a regions heart and sole. Still the experienced traveler does not want to miss the jems that the people of the country itself know and love so well.

About the Author: Peter started taking photographs for academic slide shows in the early 70s and ended up in Soho Photo Gallery by the late 70s. Cooperative Galleries and Art Shows were his forums for landscapes with man, landscapes, and world cultures images.
