Born in Manchester, England. I studied ecology at the Universities of Lancaster and Calgary. After traveling around Europe and Australasia I worked as a guide in the Peruvian Amazon. I now live in Okinawa, Japan where I work as a photographer, travel writer, and lecturer. I specialize in capturing iconic images of Japan, from Kyoto's geisha through to Tokyo's street racers.
I shoot with the medium format Pentax 67II system. It results in a heavy travel bag, but the huge transparencies are outstanding. I use Fuji Provia and Velvia films for their fantastic color and exceptionally fine grain.
My photographs and travel writing have been used for newspapers, magazines, television, travel guides, internet publications and academic textbooks.
