Profotos Staff Evaluation:
Dutch photojournalist, Eddy
van Wessel, has traveled into some of the most turbulent areas
of the world during the past decade. Chechnya, Bosnia, Kosovo,
Northern Iraq, and others are on Eddy's list of places visited.
These are not areas where one would go on a holiday. "Then
why go to these areas," you ask? To report, reveal and document
the horrors and realities of war. Eddy has seen first-hand the
realities of some of the most gruesome horrors of the late 20th
Century's battles.
Several of Eddy's images look like they are right out of Armageddon.
Our staff had a difficult time believing that a few of the images
from Chechnya were real. The image which struck us the most from
this area, is the street-scene with three figures crossing to
the left of the street. This image looks like something we could
see after a nuclear holocaust. Nothing is left of the city but
dilapidated buildings and dirt. An absolutely incredible image!
We hope that you will get as much out of the images in Eddy's
portfolio as we have. Eddy has been the recepient of the Euro
Press Award, and the Dutch Photographer of the Year Award, for
his incredible images in photojournalism. In the Profotos portfolio
following this article, you will encounter the true horrors of
modern-day war. Beware, Eddy's portfolio is not for the faint
of heart!
