I first became involved in photography while studying art at Brighton College of Art & Design, way back in the early eighties. From there, I was fortunate enough to secure work in various local photographic studios and businesses where I learned the trade from the basics upwards. I still think this is the best way to learn: any mistakes you make either 'on location' or in the studio are not quickly repeated - you have to get it right!
Eventually, I was able to work with a true professional as his assistant for some years, which is where I accumulated most of my knowledge and had the most fun. Then I took a break - I decided to scoot off to the French Alps to work for one ski season, (not taking pictures) which turned out to be five years! But during this time, I was able to understand the intricacies of the tourist industry and after many adventures, I ended up in Turkey. I have been here ever since and have accumulated a husband and daughter along the way.
For the last eight years, I have been travelling extensively throughout Turkey, supplying British Tour operators with shots for their brochures. More recently, I have been sent further afield and now cover areas including Morocco, Tunisia, Croatia and Sicily, to name a few. I also have a new programme of workshops here in Turkey - so others can enjoy the wealth of photo opportunities available.
I hope you enjoy the selection of shots on my portfolio - to view more have a look at my web site: www.janmcgready.com.
