Gustavo Hochman was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1960. His first experience with a camera was in primary school, where he photographed for the school newspaper at the age of eight. In the same year, one his photos of an urban event, taken with a rudimentary camera, was sent to “Clarin”, the most important daily newspaper in Argentina. The photo was published in the news section of the paper.
Since then, Mr. Hochman knew that the photography and especially the documentary and the press photography, would be his full time occupation in the future.
In addition to his regular studies in school, Mr. Hochman dedicated a great amount of his free time to take photographs and mature in his own style. Once his studies were completed, Mr. Hochman decided to focus on his photography career through a formal education in photography.
Mr. Hochman has worked for international news agencies and stock image banks. His photographs have been published in magazines and daily newspapers around the world, as well as catalogs and works of publicity and books.
Mr. Hochman has made his home in Israel since 1989. He is presently working for A.F.P., Reuters and the A.P., where he is regularly sent to conflict zones in the Middle East and Africa. One of his ongoing assignments includes the long conflict among the Israelis and Palestinians.
He has participated in many expositions and photography galleries. In the last year, he obtained the second prize in the Agfa Photo Awards. He has selected to represent Israel in the World Press Photo annual show with two of his photographs.
