Profotos Staff Evaluation:

The outstanding nature portfolio of George Stocking stood out to our staff as one which includes all of the fundamentals, which are necessary for a top notch nature/landscape portfolio. Among these essential fundamentals are: use of lighting; use of color; overall composition of the scene; medium (6x7cm / 4"x5"); camera angle, and several others. All of these elements must be working together to produce outstanding images, as those in the portfolio of George Stocking.

Our staff especially enjoyed the beautiful contrasts which George employs in several of the images in his portfolio. Take for example, the image on this page. In this image, we see very good use of "complementary contrast", as well as ingenious lighting and composition. The contrast in this scene is created by the vibrant yellow aspens in the foreground, which "pop" off of the image, when compared to the drab brown of the background. Along with this contrast, we also see a great use of the triad with a nice balance of yellow in the trees with the blue of the sky. This is a great example of the nature of the American Southwest!

It is not everyday that we enjoy browsing the portfolio of an image master like George Stocking. His understanding of his subject goes a long way in his perfect renderings of its form. The American Southwest is a hot-bed for professional photographers and George has proven that he can compete with the best of them (he is one of the best :).
