A graduate of the Istanbul Technical University Faculty of Architecture,Erdal Merter became interested in photography while still a child. His first solo exhibition in Izmir in 1993 was followed by further exhibitions in Izmir in 1994 and 1995,the Anadolu Art Gallery in Izmir 1996, the Ifod Exhibition Hall in Izmir in 1997, Kızlarağası Hanı in 1998, the Çetin Emeç Art Gallery in Izmir 1998 and Pine Bay Holiday Village in Kuşadası in 1998.
He has participated in a large number of collective exhibitions both at home and abroad. A winner of prizes in a large number of national and international competitions,Erdal Merter has for a number of years been engaged in documentary and professional photography.
Merter believes that the photograph should have something to say on the subject of real life and since 1990 he has been producing carefully selected and sifted works on the human adventure characterised by a conscious use of light and an easily comprehensible artistic discourse.
