Dan Bailey is a freelance photographer living in Anchorage, AK. He specializes in shooting adventure sports, travel, and mountain landscapes and cultures around the world. His travels have taken him on mountaineering, trekking and biking expeditions to a number of countries, including Nepal, Pakistan, India, Mexico, Canada and throughout the United States.

A large part of Dan's photography business is selling his stock photography through his home office and through his agency, Solus Images. In order to keep his files updated with fresh imagery, Dan is constantly working on 'self assigned' projects, shooting climbing, kayaking, biking, and other active sports. He also teaches photography workshops and gives adventure slide shows.

His photography style revolves around shooting as a participant in the sports that he records. In that way, he can create the dynamic, in your face imagery that drives his creative ideas, and it also allows the photography to help feed his passion for his own adventure. His shooting often involves elaborate setups and rigging with climbing ropes to shoot from rock faces, running for miles at a time alongside a river to shoot kayakers, or mountain biking or hiking with the extra weight of cameras and gear. It can be very demanding, and it requires him to stay in great physical condition. Being his own boss, he drives himself very hard, but in the end, enjoys a tremendous amount of satisfaction from bringing forth stunning images, and from the elation of physical exertion and accomplishment.

Dan is mostly self taught, but much of his knowledge of the business side of photography was by working as a photo editor at Light Sources Stock, in Boston. That experience taught him how to deal with editors and photo buying clients, how to market his work and how edit with a critical eye. The 6+ years of full time freelancing has also been a constant learning process.

Dan's ongoing professional goal is to be in the top echelon of influential, working adventure photographers, and to continue to travel on expeditions around the world, bringing back the cutting edge imagery that drives the excitement of viewers and clients worldwide.
