I live and work in Espoo, in southern Finland. My formal training is in the
field of architecture, and sometimes I notice that creating a complicated
image with dozens of layers isn't actually very different from constructing
buildings. You have to know what you are doing, where it affects and have
all the strings in your hands. And although the creative process may be
complex, I like that the result doesn't show all the hours of work put in
it.
I'm a photographer/designer/digital artist specializing in photo
manipulation and special effects, mostly for advertising use. I use very few
commercial filters when creating effects. In a large high res image they
work painfully slowly, anyway. And I like the possibility to create an
unique look by doing things "manually".
I have also professional knowledge of preparing files for cmyk offset
printing, and I do this finishing process for my images always when
possible. Sometimes it is very interesting and challenging to find the best
result, when converting from rgb to a much limited color space. But with my
own images, I have the total freedom to do whatever is needed.
I also sell my digital imaging and photo manipulation illustrator services
through my company called Quadretto. In some projects I'm asked to use other
photographers' photos and/or stock images combined with my own photo
material to get what the client wants.
Recently I have started to create conceptual, manipulated photo
illustrations for stock agencies. And every now and then I love to create my
own art, images just for me. I really don't want to specialize to only one
thing, but rather have both the commercial and the fine artist side in
myself.
I was featured and invited to create the cover (and wrote a tutorial about
it) in PEI magazine issue 7/2000, and lateron wrote another photo technique
tutorial, which came out in the 11/2000 issue. My work has also been shown
in magazines like "Computer Art" and "Digital Imaging Magazine".
My native Finland is a small country, with limited amount of work for my
skills. So I'm always looking for challenging assignment work worldwide.
