Born in 1961, has mainly lived and worked in Berlin since 1982.
Although he had always been very taken by good photography, he only hit on the idea of taking photographs himself during a 6-month stay in Australia in 1987.
Contrary to his expectations, some of these photos were published straight away. This encouraged him to devote more time and effort to photography.
Having had various jobs and been on numerous trips (preferably to Africa), the self-taught photographer now works on a freelance basis for various print and online media, several photo agencies and in advertising.
His key subject areas are "people and portraits", "event and scene photography", the countless facets of the "City of Berlin" and "travel photography" from five continents.
Juergen Stumpe rejects total specialisation, so as to preserve the fun of photography alongside the necessities of day-to-day business.
His motto: "Photographs can be whatever you like – except boring ..."
