In the beginning… Matt was employed and busy as a model in Chicago in the early 80’s but quickly realized that his passion would be found behind the camera rather than in front of the lens. Matt moved into the early fashion Mecca of Miami’s South Beach building his career photographing models from top agencies and completing editorial shoots for European clients.
On the business side of life… The success of these early assignments led to a diverse roster of clients, representing music, entertainment, advertising, and editorial worlds. Matt’s work has been published in more than 80 countries and has been found on covers and in the pages of some of the most influential and prestigious publications including Harper’s Bazaar, W, and Vogue. Being responsible for developing and shooting the award winning Vassarette lingerie campaign, he has also had the privilege to complete assignments for Alltel, Sony, Georgia-Pacific and Coca-Cola to name but a few. His photographs have been exhibited in Milan, Paris, London, New York, Los Angeles, and Atlanta.
Introspectively… Matt’s images reflect the sense of humor and comfort that his subjects experiences under his guidance. Not only does Matt want to capture the most accurate images for his clients but also he wants to reveal the honesty in the subject. His focus tends to be classic beauty in both form and function. Matt encourages and forwards his positive attitude to each subject, which results in the most faithful representation of the experience possible.
When involved… with Matt on a shoot, the subject must feel comfortable and be the “star” in front of the camera. His subjects need to know that they are in a safe place where they can be themselves without judgment. The camera records- never judges. Matt has the ability to put those before him at ease with his charismatic personality and playful sense of humor. Matt has been known to “trick” a sitter into being himself or herself but it is never for the sake of the trick.
Today, Matt finds himself…. residing in Florida with his wife, daughter, and two Australian Shepherds. His belief for and in the future is that we all stop taking our Earth and each other for granted.
