Wilmar Dik of the Netherlands is in the business of producing inspiring travel images from around the world. With images from Australia, Laos, Thailand, and many other countries, Wilmar has amassed quite a collection of stock images from around the globe. His goal is to travel across the entire world during his lifetime and capture it all on film.

Our staff at Profotos spent a great deal of time critiquing Wilmar's work in his portfolio, before we accepted him to Profotos. Having already received our coveted Pro Site Award, several months before his acceptance into our exclusive membership, we already knew that Wilmar was a talented web designer and photographer.

One aspect we found among many of Wilmar's images is his unique use of lighting. Within several of Wilmar's images, we found strong backlighting, which is quite unique. While many photographers are not privvy to attempting to use lighting in this context, Wilmar does it often, and he does it well. You will see a few images within his Profotos portfolio, which include this unique lighting style. Along with his unique use of this lighting style, Wilmar also does an excellent job at capturing the essence of the culture and place he is in. Documenting the world is one matter, but it is far more difficult to add the "sense of place" to images, as Wilmar does. Great work indeed!

Wilmar: I did not have any education in photography. I think photography is there or is not there. I started with photography when I was 14 years old, I'm 30 now. The first camera was an old one from my dad, a praktica TL5.

For me, time and place are the 2 major things in photography. You won't find me in a studio, no adventure there! Traveling and photography is for me the perfect combination.

For me photography is an addiction...I'm not stopping with photography till I've seen the hole world and by that time I can probably go backpacking on the moon :)
