My chosen photographic speciality area arises from a lifelong interest and involvement in plants and gardens.
A Bachelors degree in Botany mentored by a tutor from the 'Old School' of qualitative, observed biology developed my passion for the close observation of growing things.
My mission is to use photography as a means of helping people to observe their plants and flowers more closely and to enable them to find beauty in growing things which superficially appear dull compared to the flamboyance of the best known flowers of florists and coffee tables.
Growing plants exhibit fascinating patterns, stunning colours and structures often best seen when observed closely or with the added ingredient of the wonderful natural light of morning and evening. Currently I am gathering images of decorative vegetables for promotional and catalogue publication.
90% of my images are the result of work within my own garden where I grow plants specifically to be used as photographic subjects, this way I can dig them up, cut them and add props which might not be possible in a public area.
I offer a service of planned cultivation of plants for specific image sequences or time lines, where for example a publication may want the pictorial story of the development of a seed to the flower or the stages in the construction of a garden feature.
My horticultural images have been used extensively by:
'Media-Works' in Bristol
'Jacobs Ladder Marketing' in Bournemouth
Primarily for magazine, posters and promotional purposes in the Garden Centre and Nursery industry.
Format:
My images are exclusively 'hi-res' digital and can be supplied via FTP, Email, ZIP or on CD.
