 Born in 1954 Rob has travelled extensively to such diverse areas as Tahiti, Panama, USA, UK, Europe, New Zealand, Africa and much of Australia. During the course of these travels he worked as a darkroom technician in London and Canberra, a commercial photographer in Perth, a stock photographer for Globe Photos, New York and a newspaper photographer in Grafton. He also wrote and/or photographed articles for travel magazines on subjects such as London, Paris, African wildlife and bushwalking.
Rob turned his attention to a more contemplative style of photography in the mid '90s. He finds that a large format view camera gives him the image quality he demands, and that he now prefers the methodical technique required to use this style of camera. A keen bushwalker, Rob will spend days alone in the wilderness, finding the solitude conducive to producing fine landscape photos. He admits however that it is not always necessary to be alone and often leads walks (dubbed "walkshops") with other like-minded souls. These walkshops are designed to be an informal method of distributing photographic knowledge. Although there is no formal agenda or tuition, both the technical and ethical aspects of photography are discussed and he believes that participants of all levels learn from the experience. In a similar vein Rob ran the MONOscapes workshop for the first time in 1998. This was successful and two more were ran in 1999. In the same year Rob left his job to explore and photograph Australia. Travelling in a six-wheel-drive motor home (RV) he built himself Rob will be able to get to some of Australia's less accessible places and then spend the time there required to get good images.
